Last updated: 2026-06-07 · Version 1.0.0
This Privacy Policy explains how TransferPlanner (operated by its founders) ("TransferPlanner", "we", "us") collects, uses, and shares information when you use TransferPlanner. Currently optimized for De Anza College -> UC Berkeley Computer Science.
Information we collect
- Account identity. When you sign in with Google, we receive your name and email address from Google. We do not receive your Google password.
- Information you enter. The academic information you provide yourself: the community college you attend, courses you have taken or plan to take, your target schools, and your intended major.
- Usage and diagnostics. Basic product-analytics events (which features you use) and error/diagnostic data, used to keep the app working and to improve it. See "Cookies and similar technologies" and "Third parties who process your data" below.
We do not ask for or store government IDs, financial information, or official academic transcripts.
How we use your information
- To run the core service: generating and saving your transfer course recommendations and plans.
- To operate, secure, debug, and improve the app.
- To contact you about your account when necessary (for example, a confirmation that your account was deleted).
We do not sell your personal information, show third-party ads, or share your data with schools.
Legal bases (EEA/UK users). Where the GDPR applies, we process your data to perform our agreement with you (providing the service), based on your consent (which you give when you sign in and may withdraw by deleting your account), and for our legitimate interests in keeping the app secure and improving it.
Cookies and similar technologies
We use cookies and local storage that are necessary to keep you signed in and to operate the app, plus limited product-analytics storage to understand feature usage. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. You can clear these through your browser; clearing sign-in cookies will log you out.
Third parties who process your data
We share data only with service providers ("subprocessors") that help us run TransferPlanner, and only as needed to provide the service:
- Google — Sign-in (OAuth) and the name/email tied to your account (privacy terms)
- Supabase — Authentication, database, and storage of your account data (privacy terms)
- Vercel — Application hosting and content delivery (privacy terms)
- Sentry — Error monitoring and crash diagnostics (privacy terms)
- PostHog — Product analytics (which features are used, to improve the app) (privacy terms)

Each subprocessor processes your data under its own privacy terms, linked above.
Data retention
We keep your account data for as long as your account exists. When you delete your account, your data is deleted immediately (see below). Backups and provider logs may persist for a limited period before being overwritten in the ordinary course.
